The detonation happened on the evening of Friday at the Nowgam security post, where explosive materials confiscated in Faridabad region in the northern territory of Haryana province were being held provisionally.
Local security director stated that the explosives were pending technical investigation when a "deeply regrettable" incident during processing resulted in their blast at approximately 23:20 in the evening.

Numerous cars were "consumed by fire and turned into burned shells, with wreckage spread across the location," according to official reports.
"The intensity of the blast was so extreme that some physical fragments were recovered from close-by residences, approximately 100-200 meters distant the police station," stated an authority informant.
