Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
