This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”

The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
