Presence Film
Steven Soderbergh challenges his creative boundaries with this clever ghostly tale captured wholly from the perspective of the phantom. When a household featuring mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe occupies their recent residence, the lens – as the unseen entity – shadows their actions. The teen shows signs of conscious of the poltergeist, and it looks like defensive toward her. But why? It's a fun idea that doesn't outstay its welcome, featuring a surprise that could catch you off guard. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
The iconic actor fully commits to his cult stardom via this autobiographical spoof. He portrays a self-obsessed celebrity named Nicolas Cage who agrees to a million-dollar gig to appear at a celebration in Mallorca for the rich Javi, played by Pedro Pascal. Hired by the CIA to gather intel on the alleged criminal, the actor's unique performing skills proves useful. Saturday 11 October, 9pm, on Channel 4
This Creepy Thriller
Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller remains effective without requiring a follow-up. Located in 1978 Denver, a series of disappearances has rendered the children frightened. When Finney is taken by the villain and locked up in a cellar, he dreads a terrible outcome. However, the old telephone on the wall repeatedly calls, with ghostly voices offering help, as the prescient dreams of his sister Gwen might rescue him. A genuinely scary movie. Saturday 11 October, late evening, Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for materialism in Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation about the fallen televangelist and her felon spouse. Andrew Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who proclaims early on, claiming divine approval for wealth. Both individuals begin monetising the nation's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, overdone appearance and bad faith, though Jessica Chastain manages to show the character in a likable light. Next Tuesday, late night, on Film4
This Espionage Thriller
This week's another release by the same director is a espionage tale as sharp similar to the collars used by the actor's intelligence officer. His assignment is to discover a mole among the team from a group of five – among them is his own wife. Each performer are masters of deadpan cool, so a delicious mind game of truth or lie unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela join in the smart espionage amusement. Friday 17 October, various showings, Sky Cinema Premiere
