The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The ex-president was found guilty of planning a armed takeover in last fall and given more than 27 years in prison, but he remained under confinement pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after fresh information emerged.

This involved trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could enable a potential flight.
