Former Australian Cricket Star Damien Martyn Hospitalized and in Medically Induced Coma After Bacterial Meningitis Diagnosed.
The ex-Aussie cricket star Damien Martyn has been admitted to hospital and put into a medically induced coma following a diagnosis of meningitis.
Critical Condition Disclosed
The 54-year-old “is facing the battle of his life”, as stated by ex-AFL star Brad Hardie, who revealed Martyn’s health situation on Tuesday.
“Let’s hope he can pull through because it’s extremely grave,” Hardie said.
His condition remains serious after falling ill on Boxing Day and being taken to a hospital in Queensland, as per family sources.

The condition meningitis involves swelling of the protective layers that surround the brain and spinal cord.
An Illustrious Cricket Career
Martyn is considered one of Australia’s most talented batters, playing 67 Tests and amassing 4,406 Test runs for an average of 46.37 from 1992 and 2006.
His unbeaten 88 in the 2003 World Cup final – with a broken finger – was instrumental in Australia's win over India.
He announced a shock retirement in the middle of the 2005-06 Ashes series in England following difficulties in the opening two Tests.
